The Tupelo SPAFER RoadHouse met Sunday, December the 7th,
with 12 people in attendance. A DVD presentation by Bishop
John Shelby Spong was shown. His topic was his newest
book, Jesus for the Non-Religious, In addition to the
discussion sparked by Spong's talk, Jim High shared the following reading
from his 365 Tao/Daily Meditations by Deng Meng-Dao for
November 29th, which follows, and recommended two books.
Our next meeting is this Saturday, January 3rd. We
will meet back at the CREATE building on the S/E corner of
Main & Broadway Street in the middle of Downtown Tupelo. Coffee
beginning at 9:30 with our program to start at ten o'clock.
This month we will watch a 45 minute DVD - Jesus, The
Missing History. This program was narrated by Kent
Dobson for the Discovery Channel. Kent was a teacher
of religion courses at NorthPoint Christian School in Grand
Rapids, MI. Previously he lived in Jerusalem for several
years where he studied religion and archaeology. The
program attempts to address the question of "What's Real & What's
Myth" about the life of Jesus.
The program deals with almost everything about the life
of Jesus, takes you to the actual places the events happened
and features several important Bibical scholars including
Marvin Meyer and John Dominic Crossen.
Hosting this program also cost Kent Dobson his teaching
job. Dobson told the press that opening a Christian's
eyes "to a new perspective of Jesus is good, even if they,
in turn, reject it."
I think you will find this to be an interesting and informative
program that will sparks discussion as we attempt to "explore
religion", which is the purpose of our Tupelo SPAFER Roadhouse
meetings.
The next meeting in Tupelo is scheduled for Saturday
morning, January 3rd, at 9:30 AM in the CREATE Building's
conference room on the S/E corner of Main & Broadway
Streets in Downtown Tupelo.
